One of the "classic frustrations" on the track: The car in front of me has 10 hp more (2002 Boxster S vs. 2003 Boxster S). I am faster in the corners but he looses me on the straights. At the end the red Turbo also holds me up and the gap widens :-(

  • This video was made with a normal point & shoot camera which (and this is important) had a hookup for an external microphone.

Eventually the point&shoot could no longer take the abuse (vibrations) and died

Then I switched to a Motorsport Hero which is fine but the audio sucks.

I just ordered a Motorsport Hero HD which is supposed to have much better audio (and of course HD video)

Stay tuned for about 3 weeks after I come back from Buttonwillow and will be able to post my first HD videos

  • great video-brake earlier and in a straight line when possible..release pedal with finesses and super smooth on the steering/throttle--setting up turnes before main straights are the most important-take advantage of the midship platform and carry your speed instead of dive bomb braking like you might in a mustang- remember break earlier and dont over brake while staying very smooth- post your next track vid passing the 03 :)

which shocks, tires and pressures were you running?

  • Thanks for the advise.

I was running stock shocks and street tires (Bridgestone PP 050A) 30 PSI front, 34 PSI rear

I just bought Kumho V700 for my next event one week from now :-) I hope that will also help passing the '03 ....

  • none taken, good point. So I guess I'm not Michael Schumacher yet - damn ;-)

Did you mean to say "he brakes earlier and gets on the gas EARLIER" - right?

Hmmmmm, I need to watch the video again to see where he gets on the gas and where I get on the gas.

  • @YUSKHAN Yea ... but then who would buy the 911 if the boxster/caymann was turbo ... it'd be faster, lighter and cheaper than the 911.

  • What you need is a boxter/caymann twin turbo

    thats some good driving

  • By the way are you using one of those clip cameras? Seems like a great investment to check mistakes and study those you have race days with.

  • Very nice video!

Also try to impove your shift times.

You can cut your strait line difference by half only by shifting faster!

  • thanks for the vid, fyi : the 986 came with option for sports chassis / code M030 (i think)... allowing "better" stabiliser bars and adjustable ride height.

Also a short shifter is a porsche factory option on 986. Can help make most of the few bhp.

    ; )

  • I think that's more than 10hp difference.....

  • Late braking is obviously the key here! 10 hp is good for nothing in my book if you have finesse in you corner entry... But im not at Laguna Seca... You are!!!!! Lucky bastard!
