  • I'm teaching myself to play and was wondering if you played the "g" cut with T3 going up and T1 going down was by design, or to show that it can be done either way? Is there a preferred method? BTW thank you very much for your very handy visual & auditory way of grasping the fingering & sounds of whistle ornaments.

  • @20gsm08 To my knowledge this is the "preferred" method, though the fun (and potentially irritating) part of playing traditional music is that personal style has a great impact on things. If it sounds better to you using a different finger then by all means, go with that.

  • hi! your site and your lessons are great!

And is that a Claddagh ring on your finger?

  • It is, yes -- very observant! And glad to hear you're enjoying the lessons. Feel free to post in the forum or use the contact form if you have any questions or requests for tutorials.

  • What a great site and idea. Fair play to you.

  • thanks for the rolls tutorial!

  • Could you please put up a video of you playing a tune where you use rolls (or link me to one)? Rolls in particular I have found hard to incorporate into my playing in a way that sounds like it fits.

  • Thanks for these whistle lessons!

I am self-taught so it is great for me to have some online examples & tutorials to help me. I mostly play without ornamentations because I haven't been sure how to make them sound good. Watching your tutorials should help me with that. I will try to use more ornamentations when I'm playing & to experiment more & the ornamentations hopefully will become more natural sounding.
