Video of the SKS Carbine including History and Information

I own a Norinco SKS and since I love this rifle I decided I'd make a video

The SKS has been in steady production since 1949 and is one of the greatest carbines ever created. The ammunition is still cheap and available, it will reliably take anything from a black bear and smaller. I use mine for Coyote Hunting.

  • Ive heard that using the steel cased ammo can mess up the barrel. Is this true? I have one and have been buying the brass cased ammo instead. Should I switch? I dont care for relaoding.

  • @12jeeplover No it's not true. Steel casings have nothing to do with the barrel. The myth comes from steel core rounds but the bullet itself is jacketed with a steel core inside. That still won't mess it up. Your SKS will last you for longer then your lifetime as long as you clean the barrel and chamber properly.

  • 3:25 resident evil. :)

  • @Gunsanddrums99 Its not from the movies/games, it's a real hack job from Russia

  • Oh shit...the Taliban is in Iraq now?! You heard it first here @ North Rain Productions.

  • @TheBearnuts Listen to the words I say. The Taliban (pause) and Insurgent forces in Iraq. There's a comma in there. They aren't together.

  • I have two Yugos...Love them!!!

    Cool video!

  • @NorthRainProductions I read that some cases of 762 bullets were steel jacketed { the projectile} so I tested my ammo stash bullets with a magnet. Damn thier steele jacketed projectiles so . I figure this will hurt the rifleing .

  • @NorthRainProductions ii think he's making a reference in resident evil 4 where your guns a packe in a brief case very well

  • U WILL NOT BE DISIPOINTED!!!!!! the only rifle i would ever give mine up for is the Kar98K.. thats the only EXCEPTION!!! if u dont have 1 i highly recomend 1. planing on takeing it dear hunting and i will post a vidoe on that.

  • @b20002003 well he did say its nickname is "redneck" rifle

  • @12jeeplover NorthRainProducions is correct. But you must also take into consideration that most steel cased ammo has a lacquer coating on it that tends to be scraped and scratched off as the action cycles. This residue is one of the main reasons the SKS has an issue with slam fires. The lacquer makes its way into the bolt head where the floating firing pin is housed, and prevents the pin from moving freely. Clean the bolt by removing the firing pin after ever 200 rounds or so.

  • WOLVERINES!

  • Additionally, if a non-chrome-lined barrel is cleaned after each firing session, the negative effect of corrosion is nigh eliminated.
