Untrue. Made in China does not mean "don't buy it". It has everything to do with WHO the brains are behind the product. Who are you to say that the Chinese have no brains? Fact is, whatever the country, there are successes and failures. Need I remind you of the state of affairs of U.S. auto makers? The Japanese rule there.......... Don't tar everyone with the same brush strokes. Good video anyway. And at least honest. More than I can say for some companies out there.......

@MrFtroop72 Not everything china makes is crap, I'm not saying they don't make some crap though because they do. The problem is we want everything cheap so they buy it from cheap companies in china and sell it to us, we then complain about it being crap. But we wanted it cheap. There are companies in china that make really good stuff the thing is, anything that is worth buying comes at a price.

every thing that is made in china is junk, but what gets me is that the people in china are pretty much just looking to rip off people by selling the cheap worthless crap to all the people that dont have a clue, I wonder how many deaths due to china made junk have happened, they should stop importing this crap to all of us in the world, cause plain and simple, it is a plain rip off to the person who buys it. from radios to motorbikes, BUY AMERICAN OR BUILD IT YOUR SELF. BUT DONT BUY CHINA JUNK

yes it has failed miserably

Made in China... that makes you feel confident when putting jackstands under your car supported by your Chineese made floor jack.

they do but ...
they make to much crap to enjoy the good stuff ...
Hey Roger, I have replaced many many seal kits because of paint seeping under the dust seal, it does not cause a huge leak but it does make it wet around the gland but your choice. I use to just use a thick elastic band and then cut it of once paint was dry.

As you say, each to their own Russ, We use thousands of cylinders here in the US and in China, they are painted as I described, we have no problems. Either the paint you are applying is too thin, or the dust lip on the outer seal is crap.
Next time you see a John Deere or JCB machine, take a close look at their cylinders, you will see the dust seals have paint on them.
Just sayin'

Chrome rod with paint on it, .......... seals don't like paint, that's why cylinders have chrome rods. hmmmmmmmmm who painted the assembly and got paint on the rod? Hey guys chuck some new seals in it, clean the rod up before you reassemble it and then test it again. If it fails again with a rod in good condition strip it and measure it then make it public as to why. Lots of gear comes from China and is very well made, like anybody though, they do make to the price the customer will pay.

It is common practice to paint cylinders, as well as the permanently exposed part of the cylinder rod. Rather than mask off the rod, it is fully collapsed into the cylinder and the whole shebang painted. The paint does not come into contact with the hydraulic seal, it covers the exposed area of the dust seal, but that's about it.
This cylinder failed because of poor quality engineering and manufacturing. We have since found a very good cylinder manufacturer in China.

Do not kid yourself that 'price' is any reliable kind of an indicator as to quality. It CAN be a factor, but good, experienced, engineers cost the same as book smart novices, but are a sight more capable.
I've seen some pretty pricey crap and some fairly inexpensive quality stuff come out of China.
For the record, I work for a US-Sino joint venture.
