Stuart Rochon at ROCHON VIOLINS (http://rochonviolins.com) sent us a handmade Carbon Fiber violin to try out.

Its extraordinary!!! We absolutely loved playing it and have recorded a sound sample to share with you (Humoresque, Tchaikovsky/Kreisler).

My sister and I have sound sampled some extraordinary violins made out of "alternate" materials---this was our first Carbon Fiber violin and we were surprised by its power and resonance. It has a deep, mellow sound. We've sampled metal violins, plastic violins, and violins made out of woods like chestnut, walnut, cedar, etc, but this one was a real treat!

Thanks to Rochon Violins!!! You can find out more about these amazing violins on the ROCHON VIOLIN Website:

Check them out to see videos of some of the other Carbon Fiber Mr. Rochon has made being played...as well as information and videos on how they're made. And please let him know what you think of its sound (we're sure a better violinist could do greater justice to it than we can...we violin students...my brother did this sound sample...so please take that into account c: )

  • @ReardonViolins sounds awesome!!! There is a girl at my school who has a pink viola!! My teacher said they didnt put the paint on properly so it affects the sound wierd huh?

  • @colt413 You can contact me at RochonViolins@aol(dot)com and order one.

  • WOW!!! this is just as good as what sarah chang played. I really love this piece ever since i first found out from a book. I wonder how you cross the strings without the scratching sound?

  • @colt413 I have got to post some durability clips of these. Tough doesn't cover it! Bug me everyonce in a while until I post some test videos.

  • @smiles4teamedward The "color" on this one is the weave of the top layer of Carbon fiber. I have used several different top layers and with a little tweaking on the inside, the sound is consistent. I am making a red one next.

  • @KwonJiyong33 That one had a mix of strings on it. If I remember right it had Infield Red G & A, Zyex D and a Goldblatt E. Usually start with Infield Reds or Blues and swap strings to get it sounding the best I can before shipping it out.

  • that is so cool!! does the color affect the sound at all?

  • I would LOVE to buy one of these just to have it for traveling too keep it safe.

  • @eboyinc wow that's awesome! :)
