@Desai1614 Pokes and Lifts are the most effective checks with a pole.

sometimes me or another d-pole wont get called for a cross check and some people say it is legal, yes or no?

Great question! It is never legal to hit with the part of the stick that is between your hands. Here is where the call is hard for refs: it is legal to use your glove to push--you don't have to bring your hands together. So, if you try to push with your hand, slip, and hit with the stick between your hands: crosscheck. If it is not called, the ref didn't see it.

I play longstick defense, and I dont know if the slap or the poke is more effective???
Any advice...?

@Desai1614
From my experience, I don't see either the poke or slap being more effective. They both do a good job of forcing ground balls. I like my long stick defenders to use a combination--poke, poke, slap; then poke, slap, slap. Mix it up to catch the offender off-guard and get the ball on the ground. And always remember that the most important part of defending is footwork, so make sure you are in good position before you start checking! Hope that helps!

Did he say Poke to the gut/torso. Whata bout the arms? Yes or no for poking arms??

@reptilejohnson
In truth, you should always be checking (poke or slap) at the stick or gloves. So, yes, poking at the hands is a good idea. You will rarely see a slash called for pokes that hit the torso because they don't hurt (much!) and it happens all the time--even when you are aiming for the stick/gloves. Just keep your pokes low so you don't hit the helmet! That will always get you a trip to the penalty box!
