"The Cherry Tree Carol" is an old English/Welch folksong. It is not a "liturgical" carol. The story it tells undoubtedly made the Church hierarchy of it's day cringe...with "Baby Jesus" speaking From Mary's womb...and Joseph getting pissed because his espoused wife turned up pregnant and he sure as hell knew HE wasn't the father. A fanciful story sung by a Bard to hall full of simple folk joyfully celebrating the Winter Solstice with the merest trappings of the dominant religion. The Iconography is from various sources and is not intended to illustrate the story....just provide visual images to make the video more engaging. This song was originally released in 2006 as a part of the Illegible Records Christmas compilation: "An Illegible Records Christmas: Shelter In The Night". Merry Christmas!
