Apparently, the real Kubrick actually wanted to direct this when he found out about it. Too bad he died before he could do it, because it does have some potential. Unfortunately, while it has a few good scenes, and a superb performance from John Malkovich, it’s not that good.

Dvr'd this a few weeks back but just now watched it. Brilliant! I love John Malkovich, and I love to stumble upon small, obscure little gems like this film. A fun romp, and the fact that it's true makes it even more fun!

How dare they mock the greatest director of all time, Stanley Kubrick? With a comedy starring JOHN MALKOVICH??!?!!?

What a bizarre thing; The story behind this..

@graemeoliver84 in fact, Kubrick himself, sometimes, was telling people that were going to his house seekin' for him that Stanley Kubrick was not in the house at the moment.

Imagine if i tricked people into thinking that i'm Steven Spielberg, or George Lucas, or James Cameron.

I've had this film on my LOVEFILM rental list for ages but it keeps saying it's unavailable. It doesn't seem to have had a proper DVD release in the UK, despite being filmed here.

@5tivi I think the point was that Kubrick stayed away from the public eye so much that most people didn't know what he was like while he was alive.

John Malkovich should be English.
John is a genius xD

I love this movie. "do you have the receipt?" hahahahaha oh man... John Malkovich is amazing. However, I would probably pass out in his presence... he is a very intimidating man. But, I still love him.
