  • Instead of using instruments for your template in reason, I'd recommend using Combinators, that way you have much less worry when it comes to routing if you do work with different styles and use complex routing with fx.

  • @mrcoffeekiller

That is probably the best idea. Unless you want to mix any drums from Reason inside of Reaper Combinators are going to be the best route. This is just re-enforcement for the routing system with ReWire.

  • Its unfortunate that the routing system is so complex in Reaper. If you are getting issues with multiple channels recording at the same time you need to 1. Make sure you arent selecting all the channels. and record arming them... 2. make sure you arent trying to record on the Host track(th one with Reason ReWire.

You should only have 1 channel record armed at a time.. this is the channel that you actually want to hear while playing. After you record turn off the Rec Arm and it will play.

  • Does this tutorial apply to reason 5?

  • @analduct

Yes, My templates for Reason 4 and my template for Reaper work just fine with my new Reason 5. :-)

  • this probably sounds stupid

but how do you un rewire it

I want to work just in reason

but its not letting me because its rewired

  • @TheOfficialVipList

You would just open Reason on its own without Reaper.

  • I don't have any ReWire plugins. Where do I find them?

  • Got it, no problem! Great tutorial, thanks bro!

  • @ytgijs I was doing something wrong. I now succeeded in recording the automation in the Reason timeline. It is heard in Reaper.

  • Thanks very much for this tutorial! It works well for my system.

However, I have a question. How can I automate a parameter change (e.g. a filter movement) for a Reason instrument from the Reaper interface? It doesn't seem to work the same way as automating a VSTi in Reaper.

I tried to create the automation in the Reason timeline instead, but that doesn't seem to work either (due to the slave mode?).

  • I managed to connect redrum and I can record on reaper with it, but there's a lot of noise underneath (like when you record silence and then turn it up). I chose 64 channels, and whenever I hit "record enable" on the drums all 64 channels are record enabled. Its like they're all one channel. I assume all these extra channels recording simultaneously is the problem? Any idea how to fix this and record drums cleanly?

  • So I just tried rewiring redrum, followed your way exactly step by step but when I hit record on reaper and play notes with my midi keyboard I just get weird quiet beeping glitchy noises when I listen to the recording playback. Each channel is armed to record so how do I record the actual beats??? This is insanely complicated :(
