For all Shea's flaws, it really was a beautiful unique field. The Shea scoreboard was, and still is, a modern wonder. I agree its time to move on and I look foward to Citi Field, but please give Shea a little respect.

But still, Queens just isn't the same without Shea. Never will be again. That's obvious... It's still so surreal not seeing it when I pass the Northern Flushing Meadows area. Like, when riding on the Van Wyck. It is something seeing that huge empty space...makes me think of how the spot The Stadium (BX!!!) sits in will look once that memorable palace comes down for good. It'll be something different. Hell, Giants Stadium, too... The Tri-State area is changing, man. No doubt about it.

Shea HAD to go. On t.v., yeah, it looked good. Especially in HD! Lol! But if you ever actually went to a ballgame there, you saw how fucked up it really was. It's been in disrepair since the late-80's/early-90's (my pop took me to two games in the summer of '89--it was in bad shape then). The Citi was inevitable. Though, it is a shame they couldn't do the retractable roof thing. Given the position of the new park and the direction its facing (pretty much Northeast), there's no real view. :(

You said it! I think being a Mets fan in the beginning was one part goof, one part the incipient youth rebellion (I was 16 in '64.) But going to the park was always a gas! There was always some sense of 'Who knows?' adventure, even in '08. My son is a lifelong Mets fan & saw some of the great Shea home games. The new place smells of hedge fund counterparties, policed crowds and Jeff.

Shea was such a great park. What a disgrace it's gone and the Mets play in a corporate park.
