Except for James Ehnes, Schlomo Mintz may well be the best living violinist and this recording will prove it. I downloaded a fragment of his recording of the Dvorak back from the napster days and started to look for this cd, I looked for a long time and after about 2 years I finally got it on ebay and was stunned to hear how good the sibelius was.

Some shmuck on amazon didnt rate this recording very highly but I love it, probabaly the best ive heard next to shaham and j. stikovetsky. Its a shame kogan or rabin didnt record it but if they did i think it would sound like this: full of color and completely effortless technique. Yes this was recorded by dg, so the sound quality is amazing, why dg dropped mintz and kept mutter makes no sense to me at all ill never know why they did this but mr mintz is back and still making recordings, i am anxious to get his mozart disks he just did. Someone on you tube put up one of this mozart recordings also check out the videos of mintz playing paganini caprices, paganini concerto with paganinis violin and vieuxtemps concerto 5, truly stellar playing! I would also like to recommend someone put up shaham video of the sibelius, make sure to check them all out!

I have uploaded rare out of print and unreleased recordings that are difficult to find, I hope you like them.

Since they are so difficult to find no one should mind me uploading them, if you have issues with me uploading them please send me a message and I will remove them.

  • Где нынешнему скрипачу найти такой классный маленький оркестр с классным дирижером?

Я уж не говорю, где найти такую скрипочку...

А нотки у нас тоже нажимать умеют. Даже флажолеты можем. Делов-то...

  • I love the way you think..because usually I so agree! I had to come back here this morning and have coffee since I am addicted to Shlomo. He has it ALL. Absolute mastery of the instrument and artistry to match it. I can't watch the live recording this early in the morning-I'll wait until it's time for my shower.

  • I also have to say I really appreciate the way she seems to love the instrument and it is reflected in her face and smile; her face is like a real time visual of the joy my own heart feels when I play. I have never seen a soloist more gracious to a conductor. Many of the younger violinist come to their concerts looking like they just rolled out of bed. I also admire how utterly relaxed she is and her Vitali Chaconne was helpful when I was learning it. She has some fine qualities.

  • her beethoven and bruch for me no one even came close have you heard her recordings of those concertos also the strauss and respighi sonatas are all perfect recordings

  • I just wanted to throw in some perspective on Chung's playing, of course, just my opinion. I don't place her quite on the same level as I would Heifetz, Mintz my mind has system of "levels".I do think she is an excellent player and can be a good reference if one is learning a piece, especially if one has small hands. I liked her textured bowing in the third movement, it was different and just edgy enough that I felt it. Not my favorite performance but it was interesting...

  • I heard Oleh Krysa do an excellent Bartok #2. I believe he was at Eastman at the time. Krysa was a Kogan student reportedly.

  • yes i have the gitlis recording you speak of

  • have you heard Gitlis? incredible! I never understood Chung's playing. I know she is highly thought of. I just never will go out of my way to listen to her.

  • my favorite bartok 2 recordings are actually kyung wha chung first and perlman second

  • I really love Gitlis' Bartok #2. THE BEST!
