This is the first in a series of 1960's & 1970's silent movies I took of Santa fe trains . This movie was taken in La Plata and Marceline Missouri. You will notice that engineers and conductors were required to grab train orders on the fly. Orders were attached to a string and hung on a pole trackside. As the train went by, employees used their arm to collect their orders. Now, this is all done by the dispatcher via radio/ computer communications.

Great footage of a classic railroad!

I see a lot of memories here, the orders were usually a train schedule, since orders and signals was all we had to know where other trains were at radios weren't used yet.
