Rutherford '77,Cheevers '79, and Liut '81 had to be the worst goalies that Canada ever had in net against the Russians. Dryden '72 and '75 was up there too in the top 5 worst goalies against the Russians.

The USSR had the advantage over everyone with one job all year. That was Hockey.
Plus they had 200 Million people to choose. The Canadians and the Czechs had other Jobs through the year.
Yet it is amazing that with only the partial part of the year the Canadians and Czechs worked with Hockey, how very good both Countries were with only 15-20 Million People to choose from

Sore loser Russian cock sucker lovers always try to say the Canadian and Americans were lucky in 1972 and 1980. The Canadians did not even have their best Players ever in the 1972 Series. The Americans did not even have Pro Players in the 1980 Olympics. Yet the Russians got away with sending their NHL Version of their best Players to the Olympics and World Championships every year from the 1950s all the way until the end of the 1980s. What unfair bullshit that was.
why was Russia better at ice hockey back when they were the USSR?

"why was Russia better at ice hockey back when they were the USSR?"
Better (and more complete) players, better system, and better coaching.

it really shouldn't surprise anyone that the soviets won this. whenever there's an "allstars v.s (insert team here)" match, the allstars always lose. why? because when you play on a team for a while, you develop a chemistry with the other players. you learn their strengths and weaknesses and how to utilize them. when allstars who don't normally play together are on a team, they don't fair well. Why do you think the NHL lost to the soviets but the Flyers didn't?

@PLERKTA
The Flyers played against the Soviet national team once and they lost (watch?v=HpNWPefulhQ).
Stop with the allstar team excuses. This was not a regular allstar game. Many players on team NHL were linemates or teammates. In the pregame talk it was said that chemistry and practice time will not be a problem for team NHL.
And the Soviet team also had many players who had not played together.
