Harley Duffer was the picture of health until October 2009, when the 12-year-old began having asthma-like symptoms. By December, he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and was on the heart transplant waiting list at Childrens Medical Center. Childrens has a cardiac-specific inpatient floor as well as the first and largest dedicated pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) in North Texas.
