This short movie featuring Big Buck Bunny was created in order to explain what Delicode NI mate (http://www.ni-mate.com) is and what it has to offer to anybody owning a Microsoft Kinect (or similar) device.

The movie was shot 80% as a live screen capture using the Microsoft Kinect with a computer running both NI mate (for tracking) and the Blender Game Engine (for real-time graphics) together with the official NI mate add-on for Blender. The last scene of the movie was done in part through motion capture and part as traditional animation.

  • What is the point of asking for a license key by email if it's free anyway? Or is it one of theose programs who silently turn commercial after beta?

  • @georgecwin The full software will be on retail, but we're committed to also offering a free version in the future.

  • Interesting! This idea for the home user is awesome. 1...Think of the Youtube videos generated from software like this ;o). Cool! How much is it!!!???

  • @Mike2008and2008 Thanks for the comment. Actually you can download all of the software needed to achieve this for free right now. Blender (the 3D software used to make this video) is open source and our software NI mate (which together with the free Blender add-on that we provide handle the Kinect input) is available for free in beta.

  • cant wait to test this great tech out!

  • @3duaun Thank you! If you already have a Kinect, all you need to do is to download the software and register to receive the necessary beta license. The Windows 7 version requires some driver installation (included), while the OS X version works straight out of the box.

This animation is a shame for those who make animation with blender!
