Todd Akin (R-MO) announces his run for the US Senate against Claire McCaskill (D-MO)

Todd Akin (R-MO), who is currently serving in the House of Representatives, announced that he would run for the US Senate seat currently held by Claire McCaskill (D-MO). Akin touted his willingness to buck his party as a sign of his independence from DC insiders. He also remarked on his record of fiscal conservatism and opposition to Obamacare, Cash for Clunkers, the bailouts, and other reckless fiscal policies. Akin also acknowledge the burden of our growing regulatory state when he quoted the following complaint about King George III from America's Declaration of Independence: "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."
