An angry policeman who have said to be terminated and dismissed from his position, hijacked a tourist bus and ended a bloodshed on Monday.
Rolando Mendoza, 55, years old, seized a bus which is loaded with 21 people, including two filipinos and the rest are Hong Kong tourists. He was armed with M16 rifle and ask many demands which include, that his job would be given back to him, and his case would be reviewed. The said ex-policeman was killed by a sniper after the 12-hour hostage drama. He was shot to the head Monday evening after he had wounded a police sharpshooter. The driver of the bus who had managed to escape told the police that the hostage-taker had opened fire on the tourists.
Senior inspector Rolando Mendoza, married with three children, said to hitched a ride with the tourists as they visited historic sites in the city. The tourists were hostaged still in the vicinity of Quirino grandstand where the newly elect president was pronounced as he new president.
Mendoza was charged with several cases and was terminated in his job and that triggered him to hostage the tourists. He was among the five police officers that was charged with robbery, extortion, and grave threats.
The hostage-taker held 15 tourists on a bus and he had managed to release 9 more people earlier in the morning which includes 73-year-old diabetic man, and three children ages 4, 10, and 11. One of the released hostages also include a Filipino cameraman, who is the official photographer of the tourists. Those freed also include two women.
The hostage-takers' brother, Gregorio Mendoza, who is also a policeman, was flown to talk to his brother at the window but grew so agitated in claiming Mendoza had been unfairly sacked that police take him away and feared that he would inflame the situation.
Police had thrown tear gas into the bus shortly before 9 p.m. and they stormed in the bus, smashed the windows with sledgehammers and confirmed that the hostage-taker was shot.
Chinese government demands the Philippine government to launch a thorough investigation regarding the incident. They did not hide their displeasure at the handling of the incident. They aslo issued a warning against travel to the Philippines, canceled planned tour groups to the islands and had asked all Hong Kong tourists who were still in the country to leave.
Meanwhile, the Philippine government said that they promise to carry out a complete investigation focusing on the incident and would convey the results to the Chinese side as soon as possible.

@grecel1991 sadyang bobo lang ang mga nasa gobyerno. ung mga sumalang sa imbestigasyon na mga nakelam sa hostage taking ni mendoza, kanya-kanya na sila ng palusot para di madamay. bobo kasi di nag iisip ang gobyerno natin.

@miagabayan hmf hndi nmn sa nahihiya.. sadyang nkakabusit lng talga.. maraming taong gustong magpakatino.. then minsan Lng.. isang tao pa damay lahat,, paLagay mo sa Loob ng 11 hours na un iLang taon Nanaman ang gugugulin.. pra mag balik uit ang tiwala. sa tin ng sa ibang bansa.. wLA na madungis nanaman ang imahe ng pilipinas dahil lng sa busit na mendoza na un.. shit
