Farewell Halo Part 1

I had my halo taken off on December 8, 2009. I was in a car accident on September 11, 2009, broke my C1 and had to wear the halo for 3 months. It was supposed to come off on December 15, but I woke up with my eyes swollen (as you can see in the video) this morning after it slipped on the front 2 pins and I had to have it tightened about 48 hours before and the doctors said to come in right away to have it removed. This is the video of it being take off. Part 1 of 2.

I'm sorry but why do people get those for? Is it if someone suffers from an accident?

@sweetnluvly07 It's for when you break your neck. There are 4 pins that are drilled 1/8" into your skull (2 above your ears on either side and 2 on your forehead) and that's what holds your head straight so you don't turn your neck.

@MsJulieAnnBrody hey i just got in to a car cras h and i had one of those put on but it comes iff in a couple days and im happy and nervous . how did your holes from your pin sites heal did they leave marks? or scabs?

@chris7g Congratulations!!! I remember counting the hours right before it came off. You'll be fine! Honestly my nervousness came from the anxiety of having it taken off. I had no idea what to expect. But he did it slowly & it didn't really hurt. One of the pins pulled on my hair & a scab when it was coming out, that's all. Honestly, my pin sites healed much better than I thought they would. I have little dimples on my forehead but they aren't horrible. Good luck!!

i dove into lake michigan and broke my neck worse than christopher reeves, four days later i went to the hospital thinkin i kinked it or something and they slaped a halo on me!! i hate halos,

i've had 3 halos because of my medical condition. i have a 4 level fusion in my neck.
