Using that cable to drive the table probably wouldn't be accurate enough, however how much of a problem is it? the basic idea is that it's all one cable, so it moves in unison. Since it crosses in the center, both sides are moving the same direction at the same linear speed (no matter what, the cable will move as much as it moves everywhere - excluding, of course, any stretch etc - just as an IDEAL cable. Anyway - the big problem is in maintaining accuracy and preventing slip. probably best to use the cable only for stabilization and drive the table another way.
