Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 13555 from Curt on a 2009 Honda CR-V. We are underneath the vehicle, and we are going to go ahead and locate the mounting location for the trailer hitch. In order to do so, we are first going to need to lower the exhaust off of its hangers to gain access to the passengers side frame rail. As you can see, we have got one rubber hanger that the exhaust is going to need to come down from. And then on the inboard side, nearest the trunk well, we have one here as well.

From there you can see we have got two weld nuts here at the end of the frame rail. Those are going to provide our two frame-mounted attaching points for the trailer hitch for both the passengers and the drivers side. And then at the center attaching point we are going to be using the tow hook. We are going to be taking the basic U-bolt that comes in the installation kit. We are just going to slot that over the tow hook and we will mount the hitch up there. And then, over here on the drivers side, you can see we have got four weld nuts here in the frame. We are actually going to be using the two middle ones as our attaching points for the hitch over here on the drivers side.

With the mounting locations pointed out, we can go ahead and put our trailer hitch up into position. We are going to start by fastening the hitch by the U-bolt on the tow loop, and then we will attach to the weld nuts on the side of the frame. Then I am going to start over here on the drivers side, and go ahead and loosely install the hex bolts along with the conical-tooth washer. Then I am going over here to the passengers side and install the hex bolts as well. OK, and with all the hex bolts in place we are going to go ahead and just tighten them down. I am going to start by going around and snugging them all up, and then we will come back and torque them down to their specified torque rating.

With the frame bolts snugged down I am going to go ahead and fully torque the U-bolt in the middle, and then I will tighten the frame bolts last. OK, when tightening the U-bolt I do not recommend using an air tool, because you want to make sure you tighten the U-bolt evenly, and you do not want to overtighten it. OK, with those in place, we are going to go back through and torque all the bolts down. Again, you want to check with your instructions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. And with all the bolts torqued down, the hitch installation is complete. We want to make sure we go ahead and put our exhaust back up on the hanger before we finish. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 13555 on a 2009 Honda CR-V.

  • Very helpful video. Especially useful was suggestion to add lubricant to muffler hanger, for both removal and reattachment. I installed Curt hitch. Only tools required were ratchet with two sockets, box end wrench (didn't have deep enough socket to tighten u-bolt nuts, WD-40, and a pry bar to nudge muffer off hanger. No problems. This is my second hitch from eTrailer, and it's become one of my favorite companies to do business with. Their website, prices and shipping are great!

  • I have worked for honda for 8 years- this hitch is my new choice for my 10 crv. Honda requires you to cut plastic out of your bumper for theirs, this one is a class 3 and it looks nicer than honda's

  • wow, just saved me big time. Couldn't figure out how to get the muffler off, AWESOME VIDEO!
