I love both versions, but indeed Roberta has the better version. The music and ad-libs at the end are just moving. Luther's version has emotion but is too polished.....he should of stretched out a little bit. listen to the bass player at 4:08-10 on this one and the background vocal arrangement, just stellar.

@thirtydaes i prefer roberta's version. credit does have to go to the better arrangement, but yeah, roberta's singing, esp. in the last few minutes sealed it for me.

@bboohhmmaann luther in indeed on background vocals. he released his own version the same year and as much as i enjoy luther, roberta flack's version is tops.

wow! this song and 'just when i needed you' are amazing but hard to find gems in roberta flack's under-acknowledged music career. you won't truly understand until you own a copy of the 1981 bustin loose soundtrack ms. flack wrote & composed that spawned these gems. this is elite r&b here.
