Dr. Grant Miller was chosen as a hero in the "Animal" category of the 6th Annual Real Heroes Awards Breakfast. You can read more about him below.
Sonoma County has experienced its share of animal abuse and neglect cases, especially horses. In difficult financial times, such cases increase.
Dr. Grant Miller, a local veterinarian whose love of horses goes back to his childhood, was compelled to find a solution. He began working with the Sonoma County Animal Control Department and saw how stretched the resources of the department were. In response, he founded the non-profit CHANGE program (Coins to Help Abandoned and Neglected Equines) to help. It started simply, with coin collections throughout the county.
Through Dr. Millers dedication, CHANGE is now a network of volunteers who transport, house, feed and rehabilitate abused and neglected horses. Once the horses are rehabilitated, the volunteers find them permanent homes. Since July, 2008, they have rehabilitated 17 horses.
Dr. Miller also offers free services to the district attorney to testify against people who have been charged with animal abuse. He is truly committed to helping the horses he has always loved.
Thank you for being such a champion for horses in need. You are making such a huge difference in so many of their lives (as evidenced on Argus's blog). Hopefully, you will inspire other vets to follow in your footsteps and go the extra mile for the health and happiness of our equine friends

Thank you! For all you do, for all your heart, thank you for standing up for what you believe. Someone must speak for the ones who have no voice.

What a wonderful man and program. I have been a follower from the beginning of Argus' story. Truly thankful that there are people still left like this today.
