What fingers!

whenever i thought ive heard the best versioon of something, i hear horowitz play it - and he just reinvents the piece. crazy. he was so different. he had so much more character than anyone especially today
-
@horowitz109 Perhaps the greatest pianist ever!
-
@filippeo85 This is a solo version of the same piece that is played by piano and orchestra... in fact there is constantly an orchestral cushion in the latter arrangement... superfluous though because chopin wasn't a great orchestrator.. but this piece is sheer brilliance.. to me, it shows a sense of supreme freedom that was denied for too long...

@marcxopoco And your point is? Many pianists have pianos specially altered for them. Lighter action, whatever.
-
Horowitz' doctored piano is in evidence here with its light action, notes above middle C tuned slightly sharp, laquered hammers in the higher ranges making them more brilliant.
This performance is very light on pedal and with the left hand part hardly heard while the top part is highlighted.
-
In this piece, Horowitz leaves every other great pianist (dead or alive) in the dust, including Richter, Benedetti-Michelangeli and so forth.
-
Yes. Unfortunately, Filippeo85 missed the wonderfull Chopin's Opus 22 Andante Spianato.
-
The Andante Spianato is missing- he starts right with the Polonaise

absolutely perfect!the best esecution of this piece!
For me,this is one of the most interesting recordings of this Polonaise. And It's interesting that hi is playing the intro(who is very hard) and not the orchestra !
