  • Great vid. :)

Is that an Opinel #7 I see?. Got one myself - lovely knife.

The lock is an issue tho - stupidly it's seen as a fixed blade knife in (UK) law so only legally carryable "with good reason" - may be an issue if you're ever in a position where you're liable to being searched... train and underground stations especially.

On the safe side, get something with a spring to hold it open like you see on swiss army knives. I like the Le Tiers "Compact" but it's not as cheap as the Opinel.

  • @thirteenfingers . What a bizarre coincidence. The day before I got your message/comment I was in Sarlat in the Dordoigne region of France and my son and I were buying him his first Opinel knife, which if course you can buy in France with no problems. And then, when I checked my emails the next day I had a comment form you, all about Opinel knives. How absurdly coincidental.

  • Ace. Beats the hell out of (and more courteous than) my jugged kipper in a kettle.

  • Totally Awesome Informational Video!!!

  • @georgeegg2 Funny how that works. :)

Lucky lad. Which one did he get?

I've been a few places where they sell Opinel knives around here (Manchester and Lake District) but they all have size 6 and up which have the locking ring and the tiny keyring one, which is tiny. The thing I don't seem to be able to find so easily is the size 5 which is small enough to count as a legal pocket knife (and being non-locking you don't fall foul of the STUPID rule against locks for everyday carry).

  • @basiliosz Yes
