@lewisb187 The British Government may have wanted to appear "firm but fair", but I have less inhibitions on this matter. As far as I am concerned, I would have just had Sergeant Wood just build a bigger gallows, to compensate for the fact it was taking them a little longer to die.

@Xilosmien Albert Pierrepoint didn't perform the first Nuremburg executions - a US Army Sergeant (Sergeant Wood) did. In my opinion, Wood was badly maligned for this event - the condemned ended up dead....what else did they want?

@wardenphil The gallows at Nuremberg was constructed to Home Office specifications, otherwise Albert Pierrepoint would have refused to execute the prisoners. It featured a weight on a rope under the trapdoor to stop it swinging back.

I heard that the gallows used for the Nuremburg Hangings did not have a device to hold the trap door in the open position. Therefore, each condemned got hit in the head on the way down (most of the bodies did have facial lacerations). Given their horrendous crimes, I think this was fitting.
