  • what a beautiful song! i am 63 and my first husband was in vietnam. fortunately he came back and my heart goes out to all our young men who died in a ridiculous war. My heart also goes out to all who were injured, maimed or the other horrible things that happen in war. i want to say to the guy who is so sick from agent orange that i so hope he will get better and i am praying for him! thanks for posting this beautiful oldie but greatie song!!!

  • Man, this is music, real music. No electronics to enhance the voices - the real stuff God gave to us.

  • I'll always love this! Thank you.

  • Every time I hear this song I tell my wife it's a Navy song. I was in the Navy and it was in Feb of 1967 that we had just come into port, after having been gone for around six months on a Mediteranean Cruise, and we could now hear the radio in Charlston S.C. I heard this song and I really liked it. USS STRONG DD758.

  • My girlfriends step dad is Bob Armstrong (R.I.P.) founding member and original organist on the studio recorded version. He will be missed greatly but we have this and many other mementos to carry on his legacy.

  • Almost every war is the wrong war... especially G. W. Bush's war in Iraq! Besides that, I was born in 57' and I absolutely love this genre of music, as well as Motown and the current Country stuff. Great Stuff! I try to sing it, but I know i don't do it justice.

  • Bob armstrong is my great uncle and he wasn't a pianist yet. He sang with the casinos. After that band he joins another band and is the pianist for that group. He died of melanoma cancer that he got 10 years ago.

Also sad to say, Bob Sr. ( the organist for the casinos) just recently passed away... I was talking to Scott Hughes tonight and he was deeply upset by it

yes indeed...I totally agree.. I love this song so much... And I love the period of time that this music was produced...I think I was born in the wrong era... :) I appreciate so much more the real elements that laid the foundation for music... Real instruments, no outlandish effects....Just purity...I am a composer, pianist, singer and writer myself... But I have also had the privilege of conducting an entire orchestra...Nothing like it... I also played a Hammond B3 in church at 5

  • @scott93257 Indeed this is real music - no artificial anything the voices are pure and real as is the music. We had musicians then.

  • @dlparkhurst

Amen to that....folks these days only WISH they could sound like this... Anymore they sound like inept robots with that auto tune junk... Scott Hughes, Gene Hughes' son is a good friend of mine...
