"An eternal hell is just too cruel and gruesome even for the Christian God!"
May I point out to you that the language and literary devices used in the Bible to describe hell are actually just Jewish literary devices to describe shame? Thus, when an unbeliever "goes to hell", it means that he continues to live, but in a state of shame, because of the knowledge that he refused to accept the free offer of eternal salvation. So, hell really isn't gruesome, as you put it.
Salvation, reassurance, and eternal security: what's it all about?
Many religions offer salvation and an afterlife, but it is doubtful, or at least highly questionable that any could ever deliver on these vain promises.
While it is hard at first to accept, the realization that there most probably is no afterlife is a much easier pill to swallow than the hell concept. An eternal hell is just too cruel and gruesome even for the Christian God!
I might respond to this. Eternal security is heresy.
