Lake Shore Limited races the Hickory Creek to Gotham

On a frigid and insanely windy January 2, 2010 we are at Peekskill, NY at about 17:40 to witness the arrival of Amtrak train #48, the New York section of the Eastbound (Chicago-New York) Lake Shore Limited. Running off the final 40 or so miles of the journey down the Hudson River along the New York Centrals Water Level Route the train will make its arrival at New York Penn Station only a few minutes late despite being almost 2 hours late at one point during its journey. Most interesting and noteworthy is the United Railway Historical Society of New Jersey's fully and beautifully restored round end Pullman Observation car formerly a part of the New York Central's 1940s reequipping of the 20th Century Limited.

Heritage Diner
3 Viewliner Sleepers
Heritage Baggage Car
URHSs NYC Hickory Creek

Tonight the train is carrying not only an extra coach but also an extra viewliner, in addition to the very beautiful private car on the tail end!
