Composed of Jason Burleson (banjo, guitar, mandolin), Rob Ickes (Dobro and Weissenborn-style slide guitars), Shawn Lane (vocals, mandolin, fiddle, guitar), Tim Stafford (vocals, guitar), and Wayne Taylor (vocals, bass), Blue Highway has developed a modern, flexible take on the bluegrass tradition that makes them among the most influential bands in the genre today. Each member is among the most distinguished performers on his instrument of choice, and the band, individually and collectively, has collected a number of awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, including Album of the Year, two awards for Gospel Performance of the Year, 1996's Emerging Artist of the Year, and nine Dobro Player of the Year awards for Ickes. In this program, Blue Highway discusses their music and performs their song "I Hung My Head".
@soundhitman ,Sting wrote the song, So most definitely Johnny Cash was not the first.
BUT Johnny Cash owns it and sings it as if he wrote it. I don't go for Sting's original version at all and can't say I understand this version either,

I love bluegrass and I love this song but this is the WORST version I have ever heard of it.

@jocwalk I do agree to each his own, and I guess I can understand why you like this version, but it's lost the aesthetic to it that Sting gives to it. I'm very sorry that Sting's version bores you, because he has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. I would like to say that I have great appreciation for you right now though, because other people would just try to cuss me out for not sharing their view on this song.

@Lenexa000Rose I couldn't disagree more. Sting's version bores me to tears. If you think about the lyrics, this version works better. This song moves, the mistake happened in a split second, the horse was running, the bullet hit in the blink of an eye. The trial was a formality. I just think this version with its much quicker pace works better with the lyrics in terms of how quickly a mistake changed a man's life. To each his own though.

I apologize for my typo. But, I still stand with my opinion that Blue Highway is the best version.
