Just showing the rather large difference in play of my 3DS hinge versus my DSi XL Hinge. This video is simply to show that play in the hinge is not a bad thing at all and is very normal on all systems made since the DS Lite.

Since the DS Lite had so many cracked/broken hinge problems, Nintendo has since allowed a certain amount of play in the hinges for each new model of the DS in hopes to decrease the likelihood if not completely rid the DS series of broken hinge problems.

  • The play introduced is a terrible thing, especially on a 3D console that requires the screen to be in a perfect position at all times to avoid visual problems.

  • @RareLimitedGames Pop the screen back all the way (like if you were playing Brain Age just holding it regularly rather than on its side). No play at all that way. And, the 3D is much easier on my eyes at that angle.

  • Thank you very much for this man. This was a question that was really not helping and keeping me awake at night :D

  • @Hell1um You're welcome. Glad I could help :)

  • Thank you. I have had mine since the end of May and while the hinge does indeed have some play, it has never been any problem whatsoever for me.

So... I was kind of weirded out by all the people crying about bringing their 3DS back to the store, not even because something actually broke or malfunctioned, but because *gasp* the hinge wobbled.
