Act now! Go to www.FamilyActionTN.org to find out what you can do. Make sure your State Representative gets a chance to vote on SJR 127 before this session ends. SJR 127 would allow us to vote on an amendment to the state Constitution that would allow common sense protections for women in regards to abortion.
More details:
In 2000 the Tennessee Supreme Court created a right to abortion under our state Constitution. Worse, yet, the court made the requirements for passing any restrictions on abortion even tougher than those required by the U.S. Supreme Court. As a result, any restriction on abortion, even partial birth abortion, is unconstitutional in Tennessee.
The only way to enact reasonable protections for women and children in Tennessee, including a ban on partial birth abortion, is to amend our state Constitution by a vote of the people. Senate Joint Resolution 127 will allow us to do just that.
But six members of a state House Subcommittee have prevented the full House from voting on SJR 127. Even though a majority of the members of the House support the Resolution, and even though the State Senate has passed the resolution 4 times, this House Subcommittee has now voted it down four straight times. And, because the House can't vote on SJR 127 and pass it, you can't vote on it either.
This bill is not dead, but the whole House of Representatives must take action to force the Resolution to the floor for a vote. But they won't act unless they hear from you. They won't act unless you let them know that six people preventing six million from voting on an issue of life and death is simply wrong.
Go to www.LifePetition.org to petition the legislature and email your Representative. Ask them to support any and all action to bring SJR 127 to a vote in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
The six people on this committee do not represent me. My representative should get the chance to vote on this bill, and not be thwarted by six other reps. It's not right.

It should be put to a vote and see what the people want. No matter how you feel about the subject. It is a top issue that the people should have a say in.
