NBC Bay Area News turned to Saint Mary's economics and politics professor Jack Rasmus for insight into the failure of the 12-member congressional bipartisan super committee to present recommendations for spending cuts to the U.S. budget by Nov. 23, 2011. Rasmus and NBC Bay Area news anchor Brent Canon discussed possible reasons why the group of six Democrats and six Republicans failed miserably in achieving their goal of cutting $1.2 trillion from the nation's budget.
