IN THE NAME OF DEMOCRACY: AMERICA'S CONSCIENCE, A SOLDIER'S SACRIFICE, is a timely and much - acclaimed feature documentary (narrated by Eli Wallach, cinematography by Haskell Wexler), which tells the story of Lt. Ehren Watada, the first officer in the US Army to refuse deployment to Iraq on moral grounds. The film follows Lt. Watada from his enlistment after 9/11 for patriotic reasons to his informed decision that he would not fight in what he believed to be an immoral and illegal war. Like David and Goliath, this heroic soldier stood up to the might of the military-industrial complex and won. Nina Rosenblum *Academy Award nominee and Dennis Watlington *Emmy Winner have produced with HBO, PBS, TBS, Showtime, NY Times TV, ABC, NBC and have won numerous awards. This independent, low budget film is designed to enter the debate as the nation focuses on the war in Afghanistan.

  • To be a soldier is to commit to defending the constitution of the US. That was the position of Lt. Watada. He enlisted to defend our constitution. Many people think that we were brought into the war because of lies and that has been confirmed, so it is not a straight line or an easy solution. The lies were made with impunity as to the weapons of mass destruction. That is a known and acknowledged part of our history. Therefore, Lt. Watada felt he must make a stand, which is his right & duty.

  • He choose to enlist. To be a solider especially an officer is to make a commitment to defend and protect this country and the constitution. Why do we glorify those that go back on their word? What did he think armed services meant?

  • The terrible fact is, that the people who are among the most criminal of all of world history are the very ones that did 9/11 and put us in Iraq and Afghanistan and have mass-murdered hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. They are in the process of subverting the democracy of the US and UK and other countries and stealing vast sums of money. In short, these people, are the ones who should be tried and in many cases executed for high treason yet it is this good man who is prosecuted.
