Take a ride up the Sabine River, about halfway between the FM 2517 bridge and the US 79 Bridge. Go right past 'Pulaski', which was at one time the county seat of Carthage. It was a small community with a Ferry, and inhabited by many criminals in the 1800's. It was a few miles too far from the center of the county, therefore Carthage was named the county seat. There is a historical marker standing in the woods, and a few grave stones and that is all that is left. This area has tons of petrified wood and Indian artifacts have been found also. When you get to the bend in the river, this is close to where Pulaski stood. The white brick house on the hill is where we live, my husband built the pier and the stairs are ours. The red cabin and the wooden cabin on stilts belongs to our neighbor, it is his weekend home.
