This is the full version of this race, till the crash of Tetsuya Ota... Horrible crash, but here you can see that the safety marshalls are more than useless with the porsche driver ...

This was in 1998 on fuji international speedway

  • the driver who stopped deserves an award

  • @FarmACDCFreak , The RX7 driver was Shinichi Yamaji. Indeed that man needs to recognised for his act of bravery, it is in the same category as Mike Hailwood's rescue of Clay Regazzoni at Kyalami 1973 and David Purley's attempts to rescue his dear friend and fellow driver Roger Williamson at Zandvoort 1973. All these events have some common ground: poorly trained, poorly equipped and in some instances inept (if not cowardly) course workers and a driver who would not leave another to die.

  • @killthebeachwhale I saw that crash. Fined? that is so wrong, drivers are the first to respond to a dire situation. I was spared death thanks to another.

  • @manxcafe the same thing happens to craig lowndes when he rolls his car at calder park raceway but everyone who got out of there cars to help him were fined apparently

  • What a world-class racing facility they have there. For such an advanced nation (technology-wise) one waddling marshall with a small fire-extinguisher is all that came out onto the track to stop a car from exploding.

  • Thats exactly the same weather as for the 2007 F1 race here. And there were loads of wrecks in the F1 race too. Just stupid to race with that much fog. Should have been a red flag.

  • @BlackandChrome NO, they run with unleaded petrol only.

But the fact was both the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari F355 F1 are rear-engined cars so that their fuel cells are in the front.

And that shunt was so brutal that the cells failed.

  • @510musicmaker 1) in those days, races took place even if it was raining heavily even if that was in Japan

  • Do these run nitromethane or something? thats a hell of a fireball

  • Shinichi Yamaji is a hero! He didn't care about the race but he care about other person's life. I'm proud because there's a person like him. =)

  • @2005pierric Who is Number 18

  • The RE Amemiya RX-7 driven by Shinichi Yamaji stopped in front of the Ferrari while the other cars drove on. Yamaji used a fire extinguisher from his own car to extinguish the fire and then helped to release Ota's safety harness. He did this before race marshals arrived
