1 warmup lap and 2 laps stuck behind a race-prepped '66 Mustang, waiting for a point-around. I had to really get off the gas on the straights in order not to pass. (No-passing unless pointed around rules in effect on open track days). Then he decides to exit when I do!

  • On the back straight I LET him go ahead a bit after the T6. Why? It's off-camber and full of gravel from a bunch of offs earlier in the day. Getting a front-end full of gravel sucks at 100mph. Watch for another minute, and you'll see how slow that guy is on the front straight. I had to hit the brakes to keep from running through him.

I own a '66 Mustang (289 A-code, coupe). They are great cars, but we've come a long way in 40 years, lol.

    Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • what is the entry speed on turn 8? and why not hug turn 8 rather then take a wider line? hugging the inside will set u up perfectly for turn 9 and give u plenty of room for run off and its a shorter distance with the same speed being carried through.

  • It's nice to look back at this vid, from 4 years ago!

I still drive this car, all paid off now! 65k on the clock, no problems, just change oil, pads, and tires on a regular basis. I wish I could track her again, but 3 kids and a small business a killing my "guy time"

PS I was killing that old Ford everywhere on the track, especially the straight!

    GC

  • I've done 39's at the big track with a E46 with my wife and 2 kids in the car with a drink in the cup holder and a hotdog that my wife would hand to me down the striaght away to munch on! NO JOKE! bike are way more fun, makes car racing lame and do 24's on the big track. big mistake thinking car racing would be fun!

  • I want the five minutes of my life back..

  • Yeah, it probably isn't running SCCA events, but it did have a roll cage, open exhaust, racing seats, harnesses, etc. It was not "street prepped," by any means. Not racing, HPDE, so no passing unless the car ahead waves you ahead on the straights. 140mph at the end of the front straight, Big Willow. Just like on the vid. Coming off of T9 in 3rd, redlining at 98mph, hitting redline in 4th @140mph. Speedo is optimistic, so 135mph on a gun.

  • Not trying to put you down but if you are racing where you have to have a point by then that means your are running in a begginer class or the next level up, which means you have little experience at the track same 4 the mustang. That mustang did not look race prepped either. WAY to much body roll to be "race" prepped (was it even a 289). Im not saying your car is not capable because I know it is but it seems like your over doing the story a bit.

Hey Mash333 your 140mph was at which track?

  • Weight is such a killer. An E36 would kill an E46 around a track if lightened. My M3 feels like a schoolbus compared to my buddy's Z06, but we turn the same lap times!

  • fair enough .. there might have been extra light versions of the stang, i dont quite know the full history... And i dont have an e46 - I gutted my e36 and made it track ready, it feels way lighter now ... I'd love to see the difference cant wait for a track day

  • I found, in my original 1966 FoMoCo brochure, 2610lbs for the 6-cyl coupe. I haven't weighed mine, but I'd bet $50 it is less than 3,000lbs.

The BMW in the vid is my E46 M3, which weighs in at over 3,400lbs.

    Sorry about the confusion.

  • and by the way Mash333, after 15 min of research i found that your a stock 289 curb weights around 3400lb and a stock e36 328is is 3197lb ...
