Here is My first Commisioned Guitar Thanks to a local in Tallahassee. This is Dale's Rocketfire Strat. The guitar has a very cool underwater image with a high gloss finish.

  • BRILLIANT JOB! I'VE GOT A STRAT THAT'S BEEN STRIPPED BACK TO THE WOOD & I WANT TO TRY THIS METHOD TO JAZZ IT UP A BIT. WHAT PRIMER DO I NEED TO PUT ON FIRST MATE? AND AS FAR AS THE LACQUER GOES, IS KRYLON CLEAR GOOD FOR THE JOB? THANKS!

  • @andeegreen

    Thanks!!

I used a krylon white primer. Let it dry completely and sand it with 600 grit to get it nice and smooth. Krylon clear is a great base coat for the pens and if you want to get a really glossy finish I used Minwax Lacquer on top of the Krylon. Let the lacquer cure and polish it up.

  • Sure, those pictures are very impressive. BUT HOW DID YOU DRAW SUCH A SMOOTH BLACK LINE AROUND THE WHOLE BODY OF THE GUITAR?!!!

  • @Chaif15Let

Its a pretty cool technique my dad taught me, and its pretty simple. Maybe I'll do a video on how to do it.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • So I have a few questions but was unable to contact you through an inbox message. Just wanted to know if you could answer a few questions when you get the time :) So how many coats of clear coat do you need on the paint and how many coats of lacquer do you need to get that factory finish? And I know you need to buffer it but with what? And any specific brands you're used? And also can you mix the colors together? BTW amazing job on the guitar! It looks amazing!! :D

  • @Bfredmusic92

Yeah YouTube needs to fix that.

When I started I sanded down the original clear. Primed it with Krylon white primer. After paint used krylon clear 3 coats. For the lacquer finish I did about 4 coats. Wait for it to cure then polished. I used Meguires car wax from a local auto store. Check out my Getting Started Series on my channel.

This was a commission job. My client loved the work but everyone has their own opinion, but thanks for watching.

  • @rvgilder You gotta be kiddin'... right?? This is talent. He took a boring "just like everybody else's " guitar and made it one of a kind. You could make a killing in Chicago. GREAT JOB, YOU ROCK.

  • Question: the pens are one component ink, isn't it?? and the gloss finish, is one component too??

two component finishes usually remove underneath layers, how can you do it?

  • @Joeyyyyyy08 Also, what brand of lacquer did you use? I have the spray canned rustoleum stuff from Home Depot. Not sure if that's good enough or not. And also what do you use to sand or polish the clear coat and lacquer? Sorry I'm just trying to make my first finish a success and your's looks really nice :)

  • what do you use for the white that you put down first? Wonderful Job btw.

  • @Joeyyyyyy08 Sweet!!! Thank you so much. And I'll be sure to learn about these paint markers some more from you channel. I can't wait to finish my guitar :) Now to get those posca paint markers :D
