This game was posted on /v/ (quite probably from the developer of it), and I decided to check it out. 1. Because I love classic FPS games and this is one of those games inspired by those, and 2. The demo was free! This is only the first two levels, and I haven't played farther than that (yet), but it shows a lot of issues which I felt should be amended.

I was disappointed, to say the least.

by the way, nice use of mega man X5/6 sound effects. I liked the zero grunt when you jumped.

  • Jesus, the armor (at least I think it's armor) pick up sound makes my ears bleed. Anyway I think it's way too retro, the level design from Wolf 3D shouldn't ever return.

  • @DecemberMan It's a very loud noise, I think sounds like it should be reserved for key environment sounds (ie enemies, attacks, whatever) as opposed to generic pick-ups which should be subtle (think in DOOM when you get an armor bonus, I'm sure you recognize it but you can't hear it over say, an imp lurking.)

  • Out of all the complaints, only three stand out as legit to me, one of which is related to one feature of one map which ten seconds of tweaking could easily fix. The rest are all about things the game fully intends to be and are roughly on the same level as complaining about being a shooter.

That physically-palpable sense of entitlement doesn't help matters much, either. But then again, well, you know -- /v/.

  • I agree with all your points.

+ The weapons could use some smooth firing animations instead of just flashing. Look Hexen for an example.
