In this video I show my favorite simple technique for cutting pipe square with a Milwaukee Portaband. Using a tungsten carbide scribe and a hose clamp makes very accurate marks for cutting. I then show my shop made setup for my Bosch 4x24 belts sander for finish grinding the ends square.

  • oo i was worried when you picked that up

  • @deleetmeeh That is a really great feature about the portaband. The cut material is not overheated after a cut. That Milwaukee Portaband is one of the most brilliant tools ever in my opinion.

  • Those Bosch are heavy I use them at work for floor sanding my sub floor before wood/vinyl flooring. Lot of power and reliable I own 2 of them. I have a portable dewalt sander that has an attachment for mounting it with a fence I use that to square up pvc pipes after rough cut when I'm doing some plumping around the house

  • @deleetmeeh i have the sanding frame for the Bosch, and though I don't use it very often, when I need it it turns that monster into a hippopotamus on ice skates. That frame accessory is why I bought that sander in the first place. About 6 months ago did full bearing an belt replacement on it. The parts were actually not too high from Bosch. There was some very scary old dust trapped inside the inner recesses of the housing. My little compressor got a workout blowing.

  • Watch out for that loose fitting schmock. I had a plumber grandfather that died when his shirt got stuck in his pipe cutting machine. No Deadman switches in those days!
