Its a Twister

tornado scene from the 1939 classic movie Wizard Of Oz. Pretty good job for as old as the movie is!

surprisingly realistic, when i first thought how they're going to do it having to read the book when i was small i thought oh my god its going to be horribly fake, and cheesy but actually it looks so good along with the wild winds god this scene is SFX delicious, see how low the budget is and it still delivers what today people would go crazy spending millions of dollars to do it on a computer, CLASSIC

I always thought the tornado was the scariest part of this movie - much, much scarier than the witch. XD

the special effects are actually quite amazing for the time...the tornado itself was created by attaching a peice of muslin fabric to the top of the sound stage and having a track in the floor where it would move through. the kansas scene is a miniture one..and the scene where the house falls happened by dropping a mini house from the top of a sound stage onto a floor that looked like a sky and reversing the film. its actually much more creative than anything we do today.

The sight of that twister scared me when I was a kid, and it still does today.
