  • @luvinwafflez I took your advice and took a close look at the slow mo. If you press pause play over and over agan during 8:36 you can see, that when the green light comes on there is absolutely no bladecontact yet. Even in the relatively bad quality you can see that Sanzos Hand, not his blade is making the contact with Zhus blade (Which is no valid parry to my knowledge) But this is absolutely no measure that would be taken during a review o it's near impossible to see. Props to CyrusofChaos btw

  • nothing like the home crowd adding oil! :)

  • touch at 4:04, yea Sanzo is beast, but he needs to stop counterattacking... Also the parry at 8:36 was made BEFORE Zhu hit his body. If the parry were made at the same time, which if u want the slow-mo it WASN'T then it would be mal-parry. Parries are defined by blade contact before it hits, not whether or not it prevents the attack, Sanzo's touch.

  • Correct...if you freeze the video when they replay it at 8.36 you can even see the parry physically. However what chance does a uninitaited spectator have... no wonder the chinese were booing...

  • Its a parry riposte. REALLY late and years ago it would have been a mal-parade and not given. Alas all that is needed nowadays is to make contact with the opponents blade to get right of way. Hitting first is immaterial, a point will be given only if you evade the opponents parry. Its not pretty I agree but its within the rules...

  • no, the riposte was definitily out of time, should have been counter attack-Sanzo, attack-Zhu. im with chrisjhou

  • That's what I said, Voiv. Sanzo did not riposte. And the sound was not Zhu hitting the piste, it was Sanzo hitting Zhu's blade.

  • are any of you internationally rated referees??? if no, then shut up. you coud not call these matches any better

  • I don't want to say it in as blunt words, but you're wrong.

Watch the video again and listen for the sound. It comes when Zhu feints down outside his front leg, Sanzo's blade is nowhere near (watch the replay to see where they are at this point). The noise, is Zhu's tip briefly hitting the metal piste, sounds like a parry.

Also, Re Chrisjhou: the timing of the riposte (if it had been a riposte) would have been, his riposte started before Zhu's remise.

  • I disagree with you, olmpiafencing. Sanzo did beat Zhu's blade at 0:42. However, he did not finish his "ripost" until 0:41. And that was not even a ripost because he hit Zhu AFTER Zhu hit him. In other words, Zhu initiated two attacks. At 0:42 his attack was parried but not riposted, nothing done here; The second attack at 0:41 hit Sanzo and Sanzo was counter-attacking.
