Bought by Mowag in 2003 the vehicle shown is now the Mowag Duro II 4x4
The brief for the Duro was that it had to be good on and off road to get around the villages and mountains of central Europe. It had to needs no special skills to drive, so that teenagers doing their National Service could use on mountain / forest / swamp / Autobahn with minimal training.
It had to be light enough to be air portable, and small enough to fit on a Swiss narrow gauge railway bed.

Also worth a look at are the Piranha (swims) and the Eagle (kinda more like a Humvee)..

@GsyMoo Hah I don't understand why you would hate on the hummer for being bad in swamps and forests (I have seen hummers driving completely submerged in water before, btw), when our biggest deployment area is in urban-desert regions? Whatever, I guess this is good for your army boys to drive around in your own home turf for fun.

Just checked my posts and I don't think I've put anything Anti-Hummer.

But you've kinda hit the nail on the head, they are different machines for different regions.

When you say 'Our' I take it you mean the USA and UK, but these trucks are Swiss, for use primarily in the tight and twisty Alps.

As different as Wellies and Desert Boots.

@GsyMoo The description constantly compares this vehicle to the Humvee just seemed unfair to me 'cus that's not what the Humvee is for in the first place, they are exactly as you said, as different as wellies and desert boots. Sorry I didn't mean to make wrong assumptions, I thought this was the vehicle of your home country, I was referring to whatever country this vehicle happened to be for and assumed that was the country you lived in. Hah, it's nothing worth arguing over though. :D

I'm not trying to run the HV down, 'cause I think it's pretty good at what it's for. Anyway, thanks for the input, 's'always a pleasure to get intelligent converse on here.

@rammsdorfer Yes, both are incredibly ugly machines! I guess they are designed to fulfill similar needs in adjacent countries by designers from similar cultural backgrounds to similar specifications, so I would bet they have more in common than just sheer ugliness. 300SL Gullwings they ain't!

And no, this is a light multi-purpose truck with a completely different specification and role than the HV. For the Hummer equivalent have a look on mowag.ch at the Eagle and the new Duro 6x6.
