"Did Conan quit The Tonight Show when NBC asked him to move to 12:05? YES." He did not quit. He refused, NBC decided to stick with Leno, and Conan got bought out.
That would have been the first time in the over 50 year history of the Tonight Show it started after midnight, which would mean a big drop in ratings and the death of the Tonight Show as a cultural icon as we've known it, just to feed Leno's ego. Conan wanted no part in that, and no self-respecting comedian would.
