The JForce Video Documentaries
Making of JForce: UNSTOPPABLE
Episode 14: Jeremy's Spriting Process

In this episode we go over my spriting process. Reference images are everything. My main sources are captured Halo 3 screenshots: http://haloscreenshots.net/gallery/j+force3/
A topdown Gears of War mod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6XiC5a-OsY&feature=channel_page
And Jesse, which you can see at 3:26 of this video (the funny part).

And I should've mentioned this in the video, but I definitely will not draw every single frame on paper and then scan them in and color 'em. I will probably only do that for some of the key frames...maybe. I'm starting to get the hang of my wacom tablet, so I'm sort of just tracing the reference images, and then modifying them to get the look of our character (which is basically just adding lots of muscles to the arms).

  • This game is gonna be fun, I cant wait for you guys to finish it. Dont rush it though, game making is a long process and the more time you take the better product you will create. Keep the videos coming their awesome. You guys seem to be having alot of fun making this game, if the game is half that much fun it will be a very cool game.

  • Thanks!

  • dude i gotta say good work.....ratzidied is raccist and.....why not work harder and more to make a 3d game or do u wanna test a 2d game first.....brbrbrbr...excuse me......i farted

  • Ha. Ok.

Um, yeah, we're not good enough 3d modelers to go 3D. And 2d is easier, and this our first game, so yeah.

  • Wtf? Lol, I see your progress, not bad. I kinda like it now. Just one question, why the hell is he black.

  • haha. It's an essential part of the plot. You'll just have to wait!

  • Thanks for the videos, they are hilarious! and kudos for having the confidence to embark on a project in spite of not knowing your head from your ass, i suppose "just doing it" is the best way to learn. incidentally assuming you are a good game designer based on the fact that you have played games is equivalent to saying " I can be a great doctor because I interact with people every day! "

  • A ps3 port would be impossible, there using XNA.

  • EPIC BLACK GUY!

  • @ratzidied What's wrong with Black People?? :P... Um jus' sayin'

  • pff on gamasutra were article where they said that more time != better game

  • "impossible" is a bad choice of words.. If a game was developed in XNA and sold well for PC and 360 someone could go to the trouble of porting it.. it might not be easy but I wouldn't say "impossible"

  • AWESOME !

  • nice work cant wait to play the game

  • Hmm, I guess spriting implies lots of slightly bewildered looks from the neighbourhood gentry, right...?

Looks kinda silly with this big, strong bloke flailing all sorts of plastic toys in screaming colors around, seemingly trying his best to look big, bad and monstrous... XD

  • they want to port to mac.

  • aka the two important systems.
