Great song about the social condition that most American's are forced to live under. Under capitalism the workingman is nothing but sheep to be herded around in order to make big profits for the few who control the profits (capital).

To these capitialists, we are all expendable.

Burger King recentl;y made enough profits that they could have given each one of their employees a bonas of $17,000.

But because the top bosses of Burger King are stinking, greedy Capitialists, they kept it all.

@gman8744 "uptown" a true masterpiece was one of the many pop songs of the times that had some latin influences coming in. especially in n.y. where latin dance styles were then somewhat popular among the youth. this was also the time and place where salsa began to develop

@had1223 -It was a HIT,because it was indicative,of the life of "MOST" people,who go to work and are ' nothing ' they are the cattle that make the Big City,hum the way it does.Treated like what he is in the business world "Chump Change".But Then.......he gets on the subway,and goes 'Uptown'.Back in his Neighborhood,people know his name,he is respected,and well liked,he IS SOMEBODY.And to the girl that loves him,he is a KING.I'm a NYC boy,(was 15 when this came out),I sang it,...I WAS IT.
