Bad Pole Vault crash from 1978

This is from 1978. My Dad was filming me vaulting in an invitational. It was filmed with a movie camera back then. I believe this vaulter is from Brookfield Central. I vaulted for Greendale. I don't know the vaulters name. He was very good, and had a wild aggressive run. His take-off on this vault was way out (like Bubka) and his Cata-Pole sent him flying right. The Bar was at 12' 6". I believe he broke his collar bone and dislocated his shoulder besides being knocked unconscious. I always wanted to find him and let him know I had this film. Now with YouTube- maybe he'll see it and recognize himself. Maybe someone in Wisconsin who vaulted in the late 70's remembers him. Then again ... Maybe he wouldn't want to see it.

I was a sophomore at Central in 1978. This is from the Lancer Invitational although I do not remember this incident. He definitly looks like he's wearing a BCHS unifrom. I'll do some research and see what I can find out.

I did that once, wish I would of had those mats on the side like he did. I broke my neck the following year doing a stupid backflip over 8.5 feet showing off. Didn't know it and won the meet at 13.6.

his run was indeed wild, but his step was not out like bubkas, it was out like ashton eaton, but he was over striding here which is something that never ends with a good take off.
