Valeria Petrone began her art education in her native Italy and then moved to London, studying at London's St. Martins School of Art.
She remained in London as a freelance illustrator for several years, strongly influenced by the tradition of British children's book illustration.
Although still maintaining links with publishers in the U.K., she has extended the scope of her activity to include publishers in the US, Japan and Italy, where she now lives.
She does also editorial illustration for several Italian and UK magazines. Valeria's recent projects include 'Way Far Away on a Wild Safari' by Jan Peck (Simon & Schuster) and 'Horris Grows Down' by Shari Becker (Putnam).

An 'adult's children book' with squared illustrations that show curious and disquieting characters

  • The glossiness comes from the fixative that artists spray on the pages to keep the colors from smudging on the other side. You can get these at art supply stores.

  • These are even MORE impressive!

I ask again, are these water colors, color pencils, or markers? Maybe acrylics with a gloss medium? Do let me know, please.

  • @zipadeedoodle Never let them kill your love for art. If the urge is in your brain, heart and veins then bully that doubt and bully it good.

  • Could I use soft/hard pastel, like a panpastel in a moleskin?

  • Having just taken a 6 year break from artworking and having my confidence smashed repeatedly into the ground, dug up, put in an incinerator, the ashes scraped off, put in a bin bag and thrown in a landfill...... Seeing this as reignited my passion for artworking and sketching out ideas. Thank you for posting ;-)

  • I LIKE THIS

  • Awesome sound effects. I got muted drum beat, birds in the park, and some kinda of scratchy squeaking ? With the moleskine pictures... Like a weird dream.

  • Molto bello, bella tecnica, curato!

  • awesome. congrats

  • ocdtv, it looks like photos stuck in a moleskine, the light catches the pages which suggests a gloss. Is the artwork actually on molskine paper?
