@JustThink00 PS. I agree that many people tend to obsess over trivial things. (There is less mindless chit chat here but I don't claim there isn't any).

@JustThink00 Well I didn't think of it like that actually :). True that if you only hear mindless chit chat you'd want to turn it off. I think people of my country tend to be less talkactive overall (it's the thing with nordic people) than in the US and so tell less mindless chit chat. To me (dunno exactly if it's personal or cultural) it's important to tell something that has a point for the listener. It's either an interesting story, funny, or an opinion etc.

psh. hardly. We live in a world of mindless chit chat and people who love to obsess over trivial things. Listening to that would waste time and rot the mind. Tuning that out is nothing short of a survival mechanism for the soul.
however if my opinion is important, and frequently so, then the odds are that the conversation has a degree of depth and thus it also has my attention.

@JustThink00 I actually asked you these questions for a reason. Because I feel pointless to talk if no-one listens / is interested in it - and I find out that the other hasn't been listening very easily. If you failed to answer 'what was I just talking about?' and constantly told me "I dunno" as an answer of an opinion then you'd be busted for me. And I would then just not talk (to you).
You might be good at not listening, but I assure you - a good listening skill is much more useful one.

depends on the situation. you can sometimes get away with a shrug and an "I dunno" when asked "what do you think?".
All I can say is that I almost never have any problems.
