Here is a reproduction of how the first continuously broadcast image appeared. Felix The Cat is considered by many to be the first star of television. His image appeared continuously for many months as engineers calibrated equipment and experimental TV sets.

The figure was a simple celluloid (a type of early plastic) doll that overtime melted and was taped together. Engineers eventually placed him on a turntable (record player) to see how motion would look on their equipment.
