A visit to Freedomland, 205 acres of mid 19th century recreated in the Bronx in middle of the 20th century. Ride a stagecoach or a paddlewheel steamer, visit tuscon or help fight the great Chicago Fire. All this and more you could at Freedomland. They also had a concert stage where many of the starts of the day played.

  • Since Buddy Holly unfortunately died in February, 1959, it's pretty much certain that he didn't play on the Freedomland stage as it says in the description -- although I had personally seen many fine acts there.

  • I remembering boycotting the movie "Freedomland" a few years back, because it had absolutely NOTHING to do with our late, lamented Cheat'emland...er I mean Freedomland (my cousin called it that, 'cuz he had to pay for things at every turn!)

  • DL the audio from this tune at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • My older brother loved Freedomland, always talked about it like it was the greatest place in the world when we were growing up. I was there in the early 60s but was only 3 or 4, can't remember it...

  • Yeah,I remebre seing Paul Anka and Dion DiMucci(around the Ruby Baby Lp Time) there back in '63. I even did the kewe and had a piece of Anka's birthday cake wich he himself handed over siiting on the stage!!

  • Unfortunately, Freedomland could not compete with the World's Fair.

  • My dad loved Freedomland and we went every summer during the few years it was open. I only remember helping to pump water to put out the Chicago fire.

  • For anyone interested....you can still see the big paddlewheel boat in Port Chester, NY. it's docked on the Byram River. You can see it from the Costco parking lot if you look upriver. It's very near the Greenwich, Ct border. It's fully restored and the owner hopes to open it as a resturant/music club, but needs approval.

It never was a working boat. It ran on an underwater track.

  • The voice of the off camera narrator of this"Freedomland USA"documentary is"Uncle Johnny"Coons..a former NBC and CBS TV kids tv comedy performer/puppeteer and the voices of"Stooge Villa" and"Mumbles"for The UPA"Dick Tracy"TV Cartoons.

  • Dear DiabloGirl, Sadly, what you say is true..when I last saw that part of The Bronx,NYC..the wakefield/Edenwald sections have fallen into a sad situation.
